Mezzo-soprano Eva Bild is delighted to be participating in the Winterreise Project. Eva’s Grossmutti spoke German to her and fostered a love of Schubert – especially Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau’s Die Schöne Müllerin. It is a joy to return to those roots through this music.
As a child, Eva studied piano and recorder and sang in choirs. As a young woman she took some voice lessons and discovered that she could really sing! But then she had babies and she spent the next 12 years singing to her children. In her forties, she went back to singing in choirs and taking lessons. Singing has become a sanity-preserving and life-affirming practice.
Now Eva studies with Nancy Argenta at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Her recent performances have included Handel’s Messiah with the Civic Orchestra of Victoria, Baba in Menotti’s The Medium, the Mother Abbess in the Sound of Music, Storge in Handel’s Jephtha, Rosine in Pasatieri’s opera Signor Deluso and the Queen in Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
In her other life, Eva is a doula, childbirth and breastfeeding educator. She owns and operates the Mothering Touch Centre on Fort Street.
